JUDICIAL LIEUTENANT
Citrus County Sheriff's Office
Starting Pay Rate: $3,159.20 - $4,169.60 bi-weekly
General Description: The Judicial Lieutenant is a salaried position under the direction of the Captain of the Judicial Division. It is assigned a non – shift schedule (Monday – Friday). Position will be assigned a take home vehicle.
Essential Functions:
- Primary command authority in the absence of the Judicial Division Commander (Captain).
- May operate as the direct liaison with Core Civic administration, County Jail Monitor, and Citrus County judiciary.
- Direct supervisor of the Duty Office Section to include the Duty Officers, GPS/Transport Deputies, Career Criminal Detective, and Staff Assistant. The Lieutenant must remain familiar on FCIC/NCIC, CJIS, felony and sex offender/predator registrations, extradition rules, and arrest booking procedures.
- Direct supervisor of the Courthouse Section to include the Judicial Sergeant, Bailiffs, Master Control, Civil Deputies, Civil Clerk, and Staff Assistant.
- Knowledge of correctional operations/procedures and American Correctional Assocciation standards.
- Oversee agency's Warrant Service Officer and Task Force Model agreements with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the 287 (g) program.
- Review and approve reports of Judicial personnel for content and accuracy.
- Attend COAR and supervisory meetings.
- Assist Division Commander with higher discipline and other matters related to personnel (i.e. scheduling).
- Assist with the Division’s compliance with Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) standards.
- Receive and take appropriate action on citizen complaints.
- Maintain a strong knowledge of current Florida civil process for non–enforceable and enforceable (injunctions, evictions, levies, replevins, risk protection orders, and child custody) procedures.
- Remain current on Citrus County and 5th Judicial Circuit Administrative Orders, ability to coordinate and plan high profile trials/hearings and make recommendations in reference to courthouse security procedures to include development planning with judiciary.
- All Citrus County Sheriff’s Office employees are considered ‘essential workers’ and are subject to working in any capacity/hours deemed necessary by the Agency during activations, including but not limited to, in-County and out-of-County deployments.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to think and act quickly and calmly during emergency situations.
- Ability to build strong professional relationships with Core Civic officials, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the Judiciary, Director of Courts, private attorneys, Public Defender’s Office, State Attorney’s Office and coordinate with the Clerk of the Courts office as well as other jurisdiction’s detention facilities managers.
- Ability to promote and convey the Sheriff’s Mission, Values, Vision, and goals/objectives throughout the agency. This includes advancement of the Sheriff’s Office’s strategic plan, transparency, maintaining a global perspective of the agency, and proper succession preparation for the Judicial Division.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- FDLE Certification and five years law enforcement or corrections experience, including three years as a law enforcement Sergeant or equivalent role.
- Have an Associate's Degree or higher or an additional four years' law enforcement or corrections experience as substitute for degree and preferably have completed an advanced supervisory program (i.e. FBI NA, University of Louisville's SPI, St. Leo COMP).
- Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer or Corrections Officer.
Physical Demands:
- Meet the physical requirements minimums for all sworn positions.
- Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting and turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
- Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- The position requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard.
- Position requires near and far vision in reading.
- Acute hearing is required.
Requirements:
- Must hold a current FDLE Law Enforcement or Corrections certification, have at least five years law enforcement or corrections experience, ahd have held the rank of Sergeant (or above) for at least three years with a law enforcement or correctional agency.
