Description

STARTING PAY RATE: $19.65/hour

General Description: Regular, full time position working day shift, Monday through Friday and other days and shifts as required and based upon the needs of the agency. Required to work during any natural or manmade disaster and/or emergency. Work will be both indoor and outdoor conditions and applicant may be exposed to traumatic criminal events.

THIS POSITION IS GRANT FUNDED AND APPROVED FOR CONTINUANCE ON A YEAR-TO-YEAR BASIS.

Essential Functions:

  • Interviews individuals who are affected by substance abuse.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and records individual progress with respect to treatment goals.
  • Collaborates with counselors, physicians, or nurses when necessary to plan or coordinate treatment.
  • Refers individuals and family members to community resources for housing or treatment assistance.
  • Educates individuals and family members about mental/physical illness, abuse, medication, and available community resources.
  • Provides short-term crisis intervention to individuals and their families.
  • Accompanies individuals to treatment appointments when necessary.
  • Coordinates and organizes caseloads.
  • Creates and conducts public training presentations.
  • Assists with preparing statistical reports for grants.
  • Responsible for adherence to grant and agency policies and guidelines.
  • All CCSO employees are considered 'essential emergency workers' and are subject to working in any capacity/hours deemed necessary by the Agency during activations.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn records management system (RMS) and other computer applications.
  • Must have ability to think and act quickly, calmly, and appropriately in emergencies.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in an advocacy related field is required; this includes psychology, sociology, criminal justice, or a similar course of study.
  • Work experience in victim assistance, social work, rehabilitation counseling or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience creating and working in a grant-funded position preferred.
  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation required.
  • Effective public contact techniques required.

Physical Demands:

  • Sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting and turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • The position requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard.
  • Working conditions include indoor and outside work
  • Maybe exposed to traumatic criminal events
  • Acute hearing when providing phone and in person service.
  • Requires near and far vision in reading.
  • Requires driving agency owned motor vehicle.

  • Current Florida driver license required.
